It's Aug 31st! Despite Malaysian being so diverse in terms of culture and heritage but we should be proud that we can unite to be One. Im proud to be a Malaysian, but im even more proud to carry myself as a Sarawakian. I don't know how to describe that, but i guess everyone has that little 'kenegerian' spirit in them, be it a Kelantanese, Johorian, Penangite etc. But that's what makes us unique!
i miss the times when we're just kids, we do not seem to understand what is 'race', we're all the same back then. i don't know how or when we started to classify ourselves as Chinese, Malay, Iban, Indian etc. Maybe it's because we are always asked to state our race when filing in forms. Yeah, that's how i learn that we are different. Classification is a problem.
Im glad that im raised in Sarawak, where the percentage of each race is about the same. No race is more dominant than the other. "We deserve more because we are the majority here" or "We should get better treatment because we are the indigenous people of this land" are never really an issue. We're all equal.
Anyway, im grateful that we are still leaving in peace despite our differences. Let's keep it that way. Respect and understand is the key. Cherish our diversity. Appreciate the sacrifice made by our warriors.
Happy Independence Day!
Celebrating differences :)
p/s: There's at least 4 different races in each picture, yes, including the raya picture although you see everyone in baju kurung and baju Melayu. We're cool like that haha. Can you spot the difference?
